Viewer Question Topic: Allergies

Hi, my baby is a 48 pound terrier mix that has been diagnoised with a food allergy. I was given pills( looks like 50mg Atarax, and 50?g?Xreflex) and told to feed her a lamb and rice dog food. She is a wonderful girl and I think I hindered her progress when I gave her a dog biscut thinking it was relatively hypoallergenic. Can you tell me something that is hypoallergenic that I can give her as little treats...

About a week ago my dog started, and has continued, to have bouts where it seems he is not able to breath. I can remember this happening to him last year. When I asked the vet about it at that time he told me that it was "inverted sneezing." It really reminds me of human asthma attacks... Could it be something more serious?

I noticed that someone else has contacted you regarding their boxer and itching... Our boxer (female) has been itching on and off since we got her... She doesn't get ANYTHING else but her IAMs lamb and rice food as well as her IAMs biscuits at night before bedtime - so I don't think it is a food allergy...I am very concerned. She is constantly itching and sometimes to the point of making herself bleed.

Hello Dr. Milwicki, I am so glad to have run across your article as I am about to proceed with some allergy testing. I have a two and a half year old female boxer with allergy symptoms of redness between toes and underbelly/ears with constant scratching.

I have a 22 month old red dobie that has allergies to corn, rice, wheat, soy and potato. The test was done by Heska. Do you have any suggestions as to what to feed him?

Dr. Milwicki, My almost 2 year old cocker, Bella is doing the same thing you described in your article on allergies.I have taken her to the vet, and he has given her antihistimines to take 2 x a day, as well as derm caps liquid to put in the food... She isn't chewing the hair off, it's more like a nipping thing going on, but last night she woke us up doing it. I'm not sure if it is an allergy, or a mild case of obsessive/compulsive disorder.

I live in south Florida now, but this problem went on in the city we moved from which is in south Alabama. At this time every year & through the summer one of my dogs starts the scratching & licking. He licks till there are sores. By the fall & winter things start to clear up. I know he is allergic to something he breaths. I myself have allergies & have gotten Rx's from my doctor to take. My question is...can I give my allergy meds to my dog?...
