Viewer Question Topic: Allergies

I have a 22 month old red dobie that has allergies to corn, rice, wheat, soy and potato. The test was done by Heska. Do you have any suggestions as to what to feed him? He is also allergic to many plants and trees. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You, Jane F.

Hi Jane, Usually when food allergy tests are done by a laboratory, they will include with their report a list of commercial or specialized pet foods that are appropriate. Check with your vet to see if he has a copy of this report. If not, you need to read the labels on the cans or bags to ensure that they don't contain any ingredients that your Dobie is sensitive to. Allergies to environmental agents like plants and house dust etc. can be controlled by medicines like antihistamines and corticosteroids. Also consider desensitizing your pet with allergy injections. Good luck!
