Housebreaking Tips
All dogs need to evacuate waste. Housebreaking is simply teaching the dog that we understand this need, but that he DOES NOT NEED to empty himself in our home. By following some basic rules, many times we can get this point across to our dog.
CORRECT HIM - if you see him begin to tinkle or poop in your home...
__ hustle over to him
__ softly say "NO"
__ pick him up and rush him OUT the door
__ praise him when he finishes OUTSIDE
If YOU CAN'T CORRECT HIM - PREVENT IT
__ don't let him roam
__ close off far away areas of your home
__ confine him near you
__ crate him
__ feed him once a day for only 20 minutes
__ give him the water that he NEEDS, not what he WANTS
__ clean affected areas with pet odor eliminators
EMPHASIZE ALPHA TO THE DOG
__ practice ALPHA position
__ make him work for his treats
__ use the leash indoors
