Expert Breeder Questions

I have heard several different opinions from vets as to the heat cycle of my female cocker spaniel. I understood that every 6 months that she should come in. It took her 8 months. Is this common or what! She had a liter of puppies in December, could this have contributed to it? Also, how many days after the first sight of color in the heat cycle, can she breed. I have heard of people counting days to know exactly when the ovulation period is and only breed on those days. Please respond.

Tina

Females don't always come into heat every 6 months. Hormone tests can be done by a vet to determine exactly when to do the breeding.
