I was just curious what kind of dog you recommend to buy when you have
children. I have a 21/2 year old and a 16 month old and would like a dog
that will be fairly calm, small and have short hair. Do you recommend
getting an older dog?

I would recommend that you get an older dog. Puppy is the same as adding another baby to your family. Puppies by nature are not calm and your children are very young.
