We have found a wonderful breeder and now are in the process of picking out a
puppy. We have 2 children (ages 11 and 8) and want the puppy for a pet rather
than a show dog, and thought we were interested in a male. Recently, I have
read some books that state that females are easier to train and are better
house companions than males. I have always previously read that they are very
similar in temperment as long as they are trained. We plan to have the dog
neutered. Given our situation, can you think of any benefits in choosing one
sex over the other? Your reply will be greatly appreciated.
I don't know what breed your are talking about. If you are talking about a Golden Retriever,
both sexes make a wonderful family dog. Training is very important. Your dog will be as good as you
make it. Make sure you make the time to do it! In that light, go for whichever sex you feel more
comfortable with; you should be fine.
