Expert Breeder Questions

We have a 5 yr. old female boxer who we would like to breed with a 9 mo. old. When does she go into heat? is it after her period? before her period? once every 2 months? I can't find an answer to our question any where. Janine

Where do I start?? First, you should not breed to a 9 month old puppy. I don't know what the genetic problems are in Boxers, but I am sure serious Boxer breeders know what they are and would share that information with you. Ask a reputable breeder (these are things you need to know to breed). Most females come into heat (bleeding) twice a year. Talk to your vet about progesterone testing, etc... to answer your questions more precisely. Remember if you are planning to breed your bitch, you too must become a responsible breeder. Make sure your female is of good quality and that she should indeed even be bred. Have a Boxer breeder look at her and help you make this decision.
