Viewer Question Topic: Dogs Eating Strange Things

Bif, Hi, I have a two year old black lab mix. She behaves pretty well I guess. She is friendly around people, but recently became aggressive towards some dogs. I am asuming that that is normal as they get older. Anyways my quesion is why does she have to eat everthing she can get her little paws on. For example tonight I came home from work and found that she ate a brand new jar of turtle food. (I have a turtle) Why? She also has eaten boxes of dog cookies and she even knocked my other dogs food off the counter to eat it. When I come home I do not yell at her for it. I clean up the mess and ask her what did she do. She knows right away that she did something wrong be the way she sits down slowly and won't look at me. I never hit my dog or yell at her. I jus thought of something else. In the winter she eats frozen feces.(usually not hers) I am wondering why is she behaving like this and how can I stop it? She is not alone all day, so that makes it harder to understand. There are other things she does like lick herself continuisly in one spot for an hour or more,(usually her paws) She also barks at me when she wants something. For example if she wants me to pet her some more or f I am holding a toy she wants,etc.... Anyways sorry for asking so many questions,I can go on and on. i hope you are able to help me out. Thank you for your time and patience.-

You need to get a dog trainer to help with the aggression and to socialize her. She sounds very food motivated; you can use this for teaching her commands and proper behavior.
She is not alone all day - does she have to compete for food? Try separating them for feedings. Ask a vet about coprophagia (stool eating) and possible intestinal parasites. As for the barking, they learn very quickly what to do that gets them what they want! Retrain her!
