Viewer Question Topic: Possession Aggression

Hi I hope you can help me. My dog is 1 1/2 years old we had her with us since she was 2 months. She is very scared and timid. I will be joining a Group Class to help alleviate some of the problems in March. The major problem I am expericing with her now is when I go near her when she has one of her bones she growls and shows her teeth. It started out gradually on a few occassions she would get very stiff and her ears would go back. Then it got to the point that she would do that along with growling at me. And now we are at the point that she does all of the above along with showing her teeth. I am afraid that she will bite me somewhere down the road. What should I do untill I get her in a class avoid her when she has her bones? Yell at her? Grab her neck? Thank you for your help. - Deetom

You might try feeding her dry dog food by bit from your hand to build up trust. Do not yell or grab a potential fear biter. If these are real bones you might want to not give her them. Group classes and other socialization might help lots. Once she trusts you more she may be a lot less afraid and easier to work with.
