Viewer Question Topic: Digging

Dear Bif, I have a 14 month old male Black Lab who has been neutered and has attended obedience training. He still jumps the 4' chain link fence which has a hot-wire at the top and digs holes in the yard. He is very well behaved when someone is with him but when left alone he jumps & digs. Is there anything you could suggest?? I don't want to get rid of him but I will be forced to if I can't keep him contained and stop the digging!! - Steve

Hi Steve, Try dropping his feces (poop) in the hole he is digging currently and move some from hole to hole if he still persists. And the fence, you could set up the hot wire higher above or inside the chain link. I wouldn't think a lab would try again after the hot wire got him once. He is bored! He's got all kinds of energy at this age. Get him some big, unbreakable yard toys. I won't recommend another puppy ( that's your choice) and not until you solve the containment problem. But he needs something to keep him busy. He's going stir crazy and it will be less of a problem as he gets older. He's still a puppy! Good Luck.
